Veterans Appreciation Day Grants of $1,000 Available for Veterans Events
The Disabled Veterans National Foundation, a non-profit veterans service organization that focuses on helping men and women who serve and return home wounded or sick after defending our safety and our freedom, is urging organizations or individuals to apply for a Veterans Appreciation Grant to provide for an outing or gathering for veterans who reside in veteran’s homes or in homeless living facilities. The Grants, as awarded on a first-come/first-served basis throughout the year, cover costs of a veterans outing of up to $1,000.
“We want to appreciate veterans year-round and we hope these outings help build morale and strengthen relationships for veterans in their homes or care settings,” said Raegan Rivers, Chief Administrative Officer of DVNF. “It is important for veterans to know more than a few holidays a year how much we appreciate and honor them and their service to us all.”
There are certain application requirements and organizations interested must submit a description of their planned outing and estimated costs and grants are accepted on a rolling basis. Grants are limited to budget availabilities and all monies can only be given to outings that benefit veterans and their care-givers Veteran’s Appreciation Application Form.
“With the growing number of Veterans returning from active duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, we believe these kinds of appreciation programs are a great way to let these heroes know they are appreciated throughout the year,” Rivers said. “These service members have often been asked to serve several active duty tours that kept them away from their homes and loved ones for month or years. Letting them know they are appreciated in a setting they can enjoy is so important.”
DVNF also provides other grants including Organizational Grants to groups who share the same goals as DVNF such as helping homeless and low income Veterans and their families. The GPS (Grant to Provide Stability) is available to help veterans and their families pay rent or mortgage bills or utility bills.
